Legislation

The PTA at the local level is linked to the state PTA and National PTA, forming a nationwide network of members working on behalf of all children and youth.

Because of its connections to the state and National PTAs, the local PTA is a valuable resource to its school community with (1) access to programs to benefit children, youth, and their families, and (2) the recognition and size to influence the formulation of laws, policies, and practices — education or legislative.

It is the role of the Vice President, Legislation to inform parents about legislative issues and to encourage communication with our local legislators.

In the upcoming year, we plan on doing the following:

· Increase awareness of proposed bills that our legislators are considering and ask members for their help in supporting or opposing these bills inline with the PTA position.

· Provide awareness of current issues by including relevant articles in the Panther Press on this Web site.

· Inform members of important Board of Education issues.

· Keep members updated regarding issues to encourage advocacy.

It takes many voices to spark changes and improve laws and policies that benefit children. The PTA legislative arm makes its voice heard with respect to the welfare of our children.
